“I feel that fine-art is a
necessity to balance my soul. I shoot fine-art as a
means to express myself and to truly appreciate the
beauty of reality. Photography for me is a collaborative
process between myself and the subject. It’s something
intuitive, impulsive, provocative and spiritual. Art is
subjective and as such I believe it should be slightly
ambiguous. There should be an element to it that is
mysterious and open to interpretation. The beauty of art
is that not everyone has to like it. People should be
able to express who they are and why they exist through
their art. Likewise, viewers have the ability to
appreciate, accept or reject certain types of art
depending on their own personal beliefs, desires,
preferences and histories. Art should have a reason for
being, but it should be determined by the viewer and the
artist individually.”
Brian Hull is a photographic artist. Born in Providence
in December 1972, his technical eye was developed while
studying engineering for 5 years. Photography entered
his life when he started working and apprenticing at the
Camera Shop in Attleboro, MA. Brian currently resides in
Providence, RI and is a partner in a photographic
studio, Hull
Grenier Studios, where he can continually develop
and refine his uniquely artistic style. His work has
been shown in numerous galleries throughout Rhode Island
and Massachusetts, including AS220, Gallery Z, the
Attleboro Museum, Holden Street Gallery and the Space at
Alice. Whether photographic landscapes, architecture, or
still-lifes, Brian describes his work as an emotionally
romanticized and surrealistic look at the human
environment. Brian is a member of the Professional
Photographers of America and is currently attending
Rhode Island College for a degree in Political Science.
