Elizabeth Howland

Color and texture are key elements in my "one of a kind" work. The garments I design and hand make include jackets, vests, sweater shawls and capes. I use existing fabrics with my hand dyed silks to achieve the final affect. I often create my own trims from my dyed fabrics and yarns for embellishment.

My scarves are hand dyed with different types of silk. The flat scarves are trimmed and beaded for extra interest. The technique used for my "crinkle" scarves is arashi shibori. This accomplishes a highly textured, hand pleated scarf which is dyed in an array of vivid colors.

Inspired by travel, nature and the fine arts, my aim is to create clothing that is distinctive with a casual flare. My scarves and garments can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion.
